In today's Budget Cut Series, Trump's budget would eliminate the Public Student Loan Forgiveness program – the program that helps America’s public school teachers, nurses, police officers, & other public servants with their student loan debt.

In April 2017, Trump signed an Executive Order aimed at ending the ban on offshore drilling in certain areas.  Smart Dissent painfully covered that here.  In late June, Trump spoke again on the topic (see here), claiming that progress is being made to make his "vision" a reality and sell our environment to the highest bidder.  

At Smart Dissent, we are endlessly trying to keep up with the Republican destruction of our government that will never make headlines.  These are NOT minor things; they have significant impacts on large amounts of the population.  The distractions of a criminally corrupt Trump administration is making it impossible for almost anyone to know about things like this post.

While Trump and the Republican Party intentionally inflict direct harm on Americans workers, our environment, our economy, our schools, our healthcare, our future..... fortunately they often do things wrong and the courts can and have stepped in.  Perhaps another example here to help save workers until Democrats take over and restore some normalcy.

Kathy Kraninger gutted the CFPB rule that attempts to stop payday lenders from trapping borrowers in cycles of debt.  Shameful.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on Wednesday proposed significantly weakening Obama-era rules governing payday lenders, boosting the fortunes of an industry accused of keeping low-income borrowers trapped in a cycle of debt.

Near the end of 2017, Republicans scammed the county with a tax heist for the richest individuals and corporations.  Not only did they drastically cut their taxes, they increased those in the middle class.  And as has always been the case because 'trickle-down economics' is a debunked made-up concept, they pocketed the hundreds of billions of dollars.

Here is another example of a Republican being appointed to lead an organization or department who entirely hates its purpose and existence.  The best way to gain power under Trump and Republicans as they seek to dismantle government-related entities that help ensure a functional Planet Earth is to spend your career hating said entities.

We at Smart Dissent and all of you have known every step of the way that Trump's trade wars were a significant drain on our people and the GOP tax scam was benefitting only corporations, not us.  When we started to do more research on the impacts to write this post, we found something shocking: even the ultra right wing Heritage Foundation has numerous posts crushing Trump for his trade war.  Now that's saying something!
