Trump's DOJ Tells Federal Courts To Remove Healthcare Protections for Preexisting Conditions

Trump and Republicans have many ways to destroy Obamacare despite the failure to repeal it in the Senate in 2017.  They eliminated the individual mandate in the 2017 tax scam that handed corporations and the wealthiest Americans billions of dollars.  They have stripped reimbursements to insurers forcing them to leave the exchanges, ended marketing of the healthcare plans, and more.

The elimination of the individual mandate is causing the price of healthcare to skyrocket, making it unaffordable for millions.  This is digusting and infuriating.

Planned Parenthood Sues Trump to Protect Low Income Women and Girls

The GOP and White House continue to target Planned Parenthood in any way possible.  They continuing to demonstrate a mind-numbing lack of understanding about the mission of and services provided by Planned Parenthood.

The bulk of federal money Planned Parenthood receives, though, goes toward preventive health care, birth control, pregnancy tests and other women's health services. Federal law prohibits taxpayer dollars from funding abortions and Planned Parenthood says 3% of the services it provides are abortions.

ICE Now Detains Pregnant Women Because of Trump's Executive Order

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is ending its practice of automatically releasing pregnant women from detention.  This is because of Trump's executive order “Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States,” which requires stricter enforcement of immigration laws. Previously, the agency’s general practice was to release women from detention who were pregnant.

The New Abortion Wars in Kentucky, Mississippi, and Ohio

In the past few months, America has seen a wave of states introduce anti-abortion legislation.  “The anti-abortion movement is feeling emboldened to really kind of take the next step,” said Heather Shumaker, senior counsel for reproductive rights and health at the National Women’s Law Center.

On March 19th, Mississippi’s governor signed into law the most restrictive abortion measure in the United States, banning all abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy.

Abstinence Leader Given Final Say on Family Planning Funds Intended for Low-Income Women

Trump and his cronies continue to place terrible individuals in positions of real, tangible power who are spending every hour of every day implementing destructive policies.  Smart Dissent will continue to provide examples of those in power who you need to stay informed about so you can share this knowledge and together we can Be Smart and Actively Dissent.

A senior Trump health official who has promoted abstinence will be the final arbiter of which groups receive federal family planning funds — a change from prior years, when a group of officials made the decision...

Trump Restarted the Sabotage of ObamaCare in early January

Despite failing to outright repeal the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare), Trump and Republicans have plenty of ways to sabotage it nonetheless by stripping reimbursements to insurers forcing them to leave the exchanges, ending marketing of the healthcare plans, and more.  What they are doing is directly harming the people they are supposed to work for.

In early January 2018, the Trump Administration took the first step in a new effort to undermine the law and make healthcare less affordable and less available for millions of Americans.

Trump Is Quietly Attacking Women on Pay, Healthcare, Reporting of Harassment

The #MeToo movement has been a revelation of revelations.  As it continues and the impacts are felt over the years, it should grow to be worthy of inclusion in our history books.  On the contrary, Trump would like to simply make it history.

To the droves of women speaking up about sexual harassment and discrimination, the Trump administration’s message is clear: Shut up.  Behind the scenes, and mostly through executive orders, the White House is making it harder for women to report sexual harassment and fight sex discrimination.
