The Blue Wave on November 6, 2018 included so much good news it was difficult to process it all.  Over the next few weeks, Smart Dissent will attempt to recap the progress we made together including well-publicized topics and less covered ones.

Our sixth post includes some exciting and long overdue "firsts" that will lead our nation into the future we deserve.  This list is not complete as we continue to learn about new "firsts" and we may add a new post with more in the coming weeks.

Our third post is that Medicaid won BIG with ballot initiatives passing in several states and new governors elected in other states who are in favor of it.

Three states voted Tuesday to expand their Medicaid programs, which will extend coverage to an estimated 325,000 low-income Americans.

If you're reading this web site, you pay attention to the news closely otherwise you never would have found us.  Thanks for that.  It also means you're smarter than most and are constantly infuriated by the stupidity of certain "leaders" of our country and the people who support them.  

Here's an example of this stupidity that makes us want to scream.

Department of Justice has it's mission in it's name: Justice.  Jeff Sessions, a terrible human being, doesn't see it that way.  He loves discrimination.  That's his justice.

The Justice Department today told the U.S. Supreme Court that businesses can discriminate against workers based on their gender identity without violating federal law.

Solicitor General Noel Francisco told the high court that a civil rights law banning sex discrimination on the job doesn’t cover transgender bias. 

Some background on why the DOJ said this:

Only the best he said, only the best.  Apparently working for Trump ain't what it used to be.  Instead the swamp Trump campaigned to drain is multiplying in size with some of the worst people possible.  

Former Maine health commissioner and Republican gubernatorial candidate Mary Mayhew has been tapped by the Trump administration to lead Medicaid, the health insurance program that covers more than 70 million low-income Americans.

Nothing is more emblematic of the Trump doctrine than to spit in the face of a poor, homeless American.  Conservatives love to make it sound so simple.  Just pull yourself up by your bootstraps they say.  WHAT IF YOU HAVE NO BOOTS?  What if you literally have nothing?  These safety net programs are the last resort for millions of Americans.

Trump favors imposing stricter requirements on adult recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as food stamps, and has disparagingly described beneficiaries as “welfare” recipients.

Trump and Republicans are readying a new round of awful Medicaid changes intended to take coverage away from as many people as possible.

The Trump administration is preparing to let conservative-led states impose additional restrictions on the nation’s health program for the poor that could push tens of thousands of people off coverage.  The changes, involving work requirements and questions about illegal drug use, have been.... the latest chapter of the GOP’s long-running efforts to reshape Medicaid....

As we wrote in a very important post in June 2018, TRUMP'S DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE LED BY JEFF SESSIONS IS TELLING THE FEDERAL COURTS TO RULE THE PRIMARY PARTS OF THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT ILLEGAL.

Trump hates his own Justice Department Attorney General Jeff Sessions.  In fact, in early June it was reported Trump won't even say Sessions' name anymore.  We hate Sessions as well.... and Trump too.

And they hate women, particularly abused women seeking to escape from extreme danger.  This is just unbelievable, like so many things going on right now.
