In March 2020, Trump "waived the driver fatigue rules for trucks carrying food, masks, gloves, and other items essential to addressing the coronavirus pandemic."  Six days later, a mother of two and her dog were crushed by a driver 16 hours into his shift.

Investigators said afterward that Singh had been driving for more than 16 hours straight, without rest. Normally, that would be illegal — a violation of federal rules designed to keep trucking companies from pushing their drivers to dangerous levels of fatigue. But that day it wasn’t.

This is the real looting, right in front of us.   The American people deserve to know how their money is being spent.  We need full transparency.  Elected officials and the citizens resisted firmly on this and late last week, we won.... for now.

The U.S. has spent more than half of $3 trillion in economic rescue funds passed by Congress -- with little of the oversight intended to ensure the money goes to the right places.

Trump swamp creature David Bernhardt is at it again, destroying our Department of Interior that he leads despite hating its existence.  You likely don't know his name and that's because he's very good at destroying the United States quietly without the prior scandals of swamp creatures like Ryan Zinke and Scott Pruitt.  The United States rapid decline into a totalitarian nation under Trump continues.

Trump signed an executive order last Thursday to waive requirements of many crucial environmental laws, claiming it was necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Just in case anyone does not realize how much of the deadly response to COVID-19 is the fault of the Trump administration.....

There are still no specific federal regulations protecting health care workers from deadly airborne pathogens such as influenza, tuberculosis or the coronavirus. This fact hit home during the last respiratory pandemic, the H1N1 outbreak in 2009. Thousands of Americans died and dozens of health care workers got sick. At least four nurses died.  Studies conducted after the H1N1 crisis found.... shortages of personal protective equipment.

The Trump and Republican takeover of agencies that they hate and seek to destroy continues....

Louis DeJoy, a North Carolina businessman who has given millions of dollars to the Republican Party, including the Trump campaign, has been named the nation's new postmaster general.  DeJoy has contributed more than $1.2 million to the Trump Victory Fund, and millions more to Republican Party organizations and candidates, according to Federal Election Commission records. He was also in charge of fundraising for the Republican National Convention.

Trump has removed 3 inspectors general on a Friday night in the last 6 weeks.

In each case, he had a rather clear political motivation.

Right before our eyes he's eliminating all oversight and obstructing justice.

Time is running out.

THIS IS A BIG DEAL.  THIS IS THE CORRUPTION ON AN UNIMAGINABLE LEVEL.  THIS IS A CODE RED ALARM.  

We've written about the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau a dozen times on Smart Dissent.  In years past we would have rehashed the basics and shared those links but we are so, so far past that at this point.  The CFPB was created to protect us.  That's why "protection" is in the name.  The Trump administration is seeking to undermine and destroy it.  Simple enough?

The Trump administration is close to finalizing its rule rolling back the non-discrimination protections of the Affordable Care Act.  Hate. Discrimination.  

The Trump administration is moving to scrap an Obama-era policy that protected LGBTQ patients from discrimination, alarming health experts who warn that the regulatory rollback could harm vulnerable people during a pandemic.

Regulations exist to protect us.  It's a very simple concept.  They are enacted through years of hard work to help society function.  Republicans stop most of them from ever coming to be while destroying the few that are enacted TO PROTECT US.
