UPDATED: Legislation Signed to Remove SEC Transparency Regulation on Oil & Gas Companies

While simultaneously placing a gas company executive at the top position in the State Department, the GOP-led House passed a resolution ending an SEC requirement that oil, gas, and mining companies disclose payments to foreign governments.

The legislation has now been signed into law, eliminating an anti-corruption rule that required oil companies to inform regulators when they make payments to foreign governments before mining and drilling abroad.  Trump repealed the provision using a bill known as the Congressional Review Act, which permits incoming presidents to overturn new federal regulations. The bill had not been used for this purpose in 16 years.
