Pentagon Seeks Billions in Next Coronavirus Emergency Aid Bill

Millions of families need federal help right now for the food, shelter, income, and health care they need.  The absolute last thing Congress should be doing is shoveling money to boost the profits of defense contractors.  No. Just no.  But....

The Pentagon will ask for billions of dollars in the next version of a stimulus package to help defense contractors hit by closures or other effects of the coronavirus pandemic...

“We’re talking billions and billions on that one,” Ellen Lord, undersecretary of Defense for acquisition and sustainment, said at a Pentagon briefing.  Lord declined to get into more specifics on the number....

The audacity to think this is happen, to actively lobby for it, and to just come right out and say it.

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith of Washington suggested the Defense Department could find the money within its $738 billion budget for fiscal 2020. He does not support more funding for the Defense Department in the next recovery bill, he said.

Major weapons programs are expected to be delayed by about three months due to the coronavirus crisis... The main contractors being hit are those in aviation and shipbuilders... Out of 10,509 primary Pentagon contractors, 106 are closed... Of 11,413 subcontractors, 427 are closed....

Holy freaking hell.  Our defense department has over 10,000 contractos and another over 11,000 subcontractors?  WHAT?
